The Indian Premier League, cricket’s most lucrative tournament, has concluded a revenu-sharing deal with Google to stream its matches to worldwide audiences via YouTube. For the season in South Africa there was a dedicated YouTube channel whcih streamedthe opening ceremony and highlights of matches. This has now been extended to show 60 IPl games either live or on a short delay.
IPL commissioner Lalit Modi told the Daily Telegraph: “This changes the world of sports broadcasting. The internet has changed the lives of everyone and this will do the same for sport. We are now taking our event truly global for the first time. Google gives us access to 500 million pairs of eyes every single moment of the day.”
